Handicaps are awarded by Golf Clubs depending on a player’s golf performances.
Maximum handicap for men is 28 and for ladies 36.
You record your golf handicap in myGolfscorer when you enter a new score card result. Analysis of handicap changes is included in the Analysis pages in myGolfscorer.
Key in the handicap with a maximum of 1 decimal place. Handicaps above zero with point 1 to point 4 round down to the next nearest whole number. Handicaps with point 5 to point 9 round up to the next nearest whole number.
Examples:
27.4 is handicap 27
12.2 is handicap 12
8.5 is handicap 9
2.8 is handicap 3
0.3 is handicap 0
Technically handicaps above 0 are minus amounts but are invariably discussed as if they were a positive figure, a player might have a handicap of 16 for example, he would not say –16. So if your handicap is 16, key in 16 and myGolfscorer will do the rest.
For Players good enough to have handicaps better than zero:
Very Low Handicaps – a ‘scratch’ golfer has a zero handicap
Better than scratch handicap is:
PLUS 1
PLUS 2
PLUS 3
PLUS 4
PLUS 5
PLUS 6
PLUS 7
Etc... Etc...

Each completed score card result stores the PLAYER, COURSE, HANDICAP and SHOT TYPE appropriate to that round.
HANDICAP – is the means of enabling players of unequal abilities to compete against each other on equal standing usually and initially by measuring their respective abilities against the Standard Scratch score of a course as indicated on a course scorecard. Handicaps are then adjusted by the clubs handicap committee by a complex formula based on the results experienced.
The calculation of mens and ladies handicaps is by reference to different systems and the USA has a third different system.
Members handicaps will be calculated by a clubs handicap secretary or committee and displayed at the Club. If you don’t have a club handicap the Club’s professional staff can often advise you on a suitable handicap – or visit www.englishgolfunion.org where non members can register for a handicap.
